About Us
What We Do
The founders of Influit Energy are the original inventors of the NEF technology and have studied the nuances of such systems since its inception. Early-stage research activities began more than 10 years ago as a collaborative basic research initiative between Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) and Argonne National Laboratory (ANL), with very little initial monetary support. The preliminary investigation results helped secure the joint IIT/ANL ARPA-E award in 2014. These research efforts, directed toward development of NEF technology, indicated obvious challenges that needed to be overcome to transition to the product development phase as a company.
In 2017 Influit Energy secured an NSF Phase I SBIR project followed by a Phase II SBIR supported by DARPA in 2019. Over the course of these two projects, we have taken the prior basic research findings and designed, built, and demonstrated the first 36V NEF battery prototype, showing that it can power a remote controlled 45 lbs jeep.
The existing design of our prototype can be further optimized and customized for specific applications. We have formalized our relationships with our first partner and prospective customer for the NEF technology and are now developing a mule for testing in real life application on a commercial EUV platform. Over the years we have grown our team and network to include experienced energy and technology experts and entrepreneurs to support our commercialization efforts.

NASA engaged Influit Energy in 2017 to address adoption barriers identified specifically to aerospace’s future electric mobility markets first with a small demonstration contract, followed by the company’s participation in two-year collaborative Convergent Aeronautics Solutions (CAS) program for development of a NEF system demonstrator. Currently Influit Energy is working with NASA on the development of a 30kW NEF charger system to be demonstrated by the end of 2022.
